Newborn baby & family shoot for Serena | Tummy to Tot package, Cornwall

Baby Serena | 15 days old

I was so excited about meeting Serena for her newborn session! I've gotten to know her family well over the past couple of years. We've had a total of 6 sessions together for different occasions with their firstborn, Natalie (bump, newborn, cake smash, Christmas session, breastfeeding/motherhood session and most recently their family maternity shoot at the beach). The more I get to know the families that come to me time and again, the more I love them. These guys are so wonderful. As parents, Christine and Dan make a great team, though Dan works offshore for weeks at a time so they don’t have it easy. The great thing is that even though he's not always there, he and Natalie have a tremendous bond which has only grown stronger with the new baby arriving.

I've seen a bit of Christine's motherhood journey and I can tell you she is one awesome mum. She manages to stay so calm and gentle in the most challenging of situations where I'd be losing it. She’s an inspiration!

This was not an 'easy' session. Natalie didn't want to be apart from her mum or change her clothes or get in front of the camera. Christine is tandem breastfeeding and much of the shoot was spent doing this as Serena is cluster feeding (just over 2 weeks old) and Natalie wanted in! But because we know each other and they have such a calm and peaceful approach, it never felt stressful. We just worked with what we had until it felt like we needed to stop. We got some shots that I think reflect their lives right now, which is sometimes the best I can do. And I think that's perfect!

They've booked a bump to baby package so we'll have plenty more chances to get sibling and family shots when things have settled. I can’t wait!
