Newborn baby shoot for Zachary | Cornwall

Newborn Session for Z

This was a very last-minute newborn baby shoot, booked when baby Zachary was already 3 weeks old. He was baby number two, and they hadn’t been able to get newborn photos with their older son as he was born during lockdown.

Normally I try to get newborns with older siblings into the studio for their shoot within 7 days of birth if possible for the main reason that baby is still a novelty at that point! Co-operation and curiosity are more likely, before the realisation has set in that this situation is permanent (which comes with a lot of mixed emotions for many little ones!).

If that’s not possible, then it’s really important to have realistic expectations (expect the worst, hope for the best!).

Fortunately I had a weekend slot available and so we agreed to squeeze in the newborn baby shoot that Saturday so that 4 year old big brother Toby could be there too.

It was a typically chaotic, energetic and fun sibling & newborn baby shoot with a lot of creative playfulness to get Toby in the photos (and to stay still for a second!).

Sessions with older siblings are always busy, and for parents a little more stressful. It often feels completely chaotic as we try to get the balance between making it enjoyable, while keeping things relatively calm and getting photos at the same time. There’s a lot of pressure (unavoidably, although I try to minimise this), and when you’re dealing with tiredness and a newborn baby it’s a lot for parents. They are always amazed that anything was captured when all they experienced was craziness.

Toby was great though, and willing to appear in some photos with a little friendly persuasion.

The feedback after seeing the photos says it all -

“We love them!!!!!! Can’t believe you actually got some good pics between the crazy jumping / neck strangling Toby gave us, haha! You got some great shots and the quality is amazing (too much quality if anything on my many wrinkles, lol!)”
