Second Baby Photoshoot | Newborn Photography Cornwall

New baby in the family!

It was an incredible honour to be asked to photograph this family again after the arrival of their second son, Ashton.

Just under 2 years ago we’d first met, to capture the newborn haze with their first baby boy, Rupert. I had fond memories of the first shoot - they are a lovely, good humoured couple and a pleasure to work with, and looked forward to seeing them all again with the new addition.

Baby Ashton

It is surely not a coincidence that 99.9% of second babies happen to be chilled and comparatively ‘easy’. In my experience, this is definitely true! Ashton was no exception - even though he was cluster feeding, he was easy to work with and between feeds quite happy to lay back and enjoy the session.

We had some laughs reminiscing back to Rupert’s newborn session, during which there was a lot of crying and being unsettled. One of their favourite photos was of Ben comforting Rupert as his tiny little face scrunched up in a newborn scream.

I am convinced that first babies pick up on their parents’ lack of confidence, and baby number two gets the benefit of all that experience. Most mums and dads agree they are so much more relaxed with the second baby, and the baby seems easier too.

Toddler behaviour

Typical of his age, Rupert was not too keen on being in photos, and the more he felt pushed, the more he pulled away. I worked hard to make friends with him while his baby brother had feeds through the session, and it paid off in the end when he agreed to be in some family photos.

We didn’t get any of the two little ones together, but his mum and dad were delighted when they saw I’d managed to get his hands in a shot, hehe. It’s lovely when people have realistic expectations!

Print them out

I love sending off a collection of prints, knowing that they will be added to the prints from the last session. The continuity is very satisfying!!

This set will no doubt look fabulous in frames alongside the ones from Rupert’s session. Allanah showed me a video of them all, hung up on the wall going down the stairs in their home and they looked amazing!!

Providing quality printed photos is really at the forefront of what I do - taking the images is only half of the job done.

Here are some others from the session and how they looked as fine art torn edge prints.

For fun, here are some side by side photos from Rupert & Ashton’s sessions.
