Maternity session for Lisa & Evie in the studio

Pregnant with a toddler? I meet many mums at this stage, either for the first time, or as they return to capture moments with their second baby.

I am always fondly reminded how exhausting it is, to grow a human while mothering such a little one. There are no exceptions - it’s hard!! But during this sweet session with Lisa & Evie I was reminded of how wonderful it is to have this little buddy to share your pregnancy with - the deep excitement and how sweet they can be about the baby.

You get kissed and cuddled, and even though you really just want to flop on the couch, everything you do for your child is a beautiful expression of motherhood. I like to believe these endless little (and big!) selfless acts add up to a childhood of love & security and that you are doing the most important job in the world under the most physically challenging circumstances.

You’re doing great!

Remember, even if you don’t have energy and feel like you’re letting your little one down by overdoing the screen time or not playing with them as you used to, you’re doing great - just the mere fact that you’re there, it’s enough.

There’s a time for being energetic and active, and a time for resting and slowing down. Accept where you are right now! You really don’t have to be it all, all the time.

Capturing the two of them

These two were fun to hang out with for an hour. We looked through my collection of client wardrobe outfits and they chose a few things to wear. Evie didn’t really want to change, but agreed to the green dress and was happy once it was on :). I suggested the green dress from Joyfolie thinking it would be lovely with her eyes, and it was a gorgeous colour on her.

Last time I saw Evie was just after her first birthday session, and she’d changed loads. Still sweet though, and those eyes were still as dazzling! Her curls had grown - so gorgeous. All ready to be a big sister - amazing!

By the end Evie was deep in a game of fetch with the cat and not so interested in photos or her mum. It was lovely to catch up with Lisa while Evie busied herself, and felt like catching up with friends.

Update

A few days after the session I emailed Lisa her edited photos, and she replied to say she was in hospital, with a baby boy!! It was a few weeks early and completely unexpected, but wonderful news and a few weeks later, on his due date, I got to photograph them all with baby Aari!! Read about their newborn shoot.
