Photographing a small winter wedding in St Mawes, Cornwall

Small wedding in St Mawes, Cornwall

This was such a sweet wedding for Hannah and Mike, at the St Mawes Hotel in Cornwall late in 2021.

This ceremony was planned as part of a family get together - Mike’s clan had come from Belgium to celebrate the couple, and Hannah wanted to be able to include her grandfather, who was frail. A bigger party was planned for friends and others later on in 2022, after all the COVID restrictions had gone etc.

The plan on this occasion was to photograph the ceremony and then head out to the rocks along the coast for some more relaxed family photos.

The winter storms had other ideas, unfortunately, so we stayed put, out of the icy gale force winds!

Hannah and Mike both wanted photos that were more candid, but because there wasn’t much to do other than eat cake and drink champagne, we decided to gather groups in the outdoor covered area and focus on getting photos of everybody who had come.

The room for the ceremony is just lovely - really light and clean and airy. I loved Hannah’s choice of dress too - she looked so stunning!

As the last photo, we decided to do a confetti throw - everyone lined up outside under the sail and Hannah and Mike made their way through a shower of fluttering coloured paper.

When I left, everyone was heading to their rooms to get in to their comfy clothing, ready to settle for an evening in the lounge and private cinema. I couldn’t think of a more perfect way to end the day, with the storm raging outside.

Hannah and Mike moved to Switzerland not long after, so I hope everything is going well for them in their new chapter together.

I love capturing small weddings in Cornwall, making sure the essence of the day is documented and can be enjoyed for years to come!
