Gale force winds couldn't stop this beach maternity session in Cornwall!
Gorgeous mum of three has her last pregnancy captured on a Cornish beach
Wow, it was amazing to meet Karly! A mother of three, expecting her fourth baby in December. Karly got in touch because she wanted to have her final pregnancy captured, and wanted to have some beachy shots, including being in the water. I had just one slot available before half term, and she wanted to be able to do this by herself without her other three little ones there if possible.
By October it has usually turned chilly in the UK, and even if Cornwall is slightly milder it’s at least jumper weather. The morning we had scheduled the session for had weather warnings for gales, and it was COLD! And the wind was strong! But the sun was out and we were texting right up til the last minute, deciding to go for it.
We met at Pendower Beach on the Roseland at 9am. Honestly, this mama is a tough cookie - she handled that freezing wind, stripping down and wearing thin cotton dresses, walking in the water, even stripping it all off to sit naked in the water. I was blown away by her grit and determination! It was quite hard working in the gale force winds - I was rushing as much as I could so that she wouldn’t have to spend any longer than she had to in the cold.
I do love a client who shares my vision and is up for adventure! Karly was the perfect subject and such a gorgeous person. She didn’t complain once, though I knew she was absolutely freezing. And I felt SO BAD when the towel I’d brought slipped out from under my arm into the sea - so I couldn’t give her a dry towel as planned when she came out of the water.
And it turned out that she’s a Cornwall baby photographer too! It made it so much more fun - I felt like I could relax a little and tell her the issues I was having with finding the focus or the light etc - knowing she’d understand. It was so much fun talking shop, babies, work and life and I hope we get to hang out soon once her new baby arrives. It’s always so flattering when another photographer picks you, and I definitely took it as a compliment!
If you’re expecting, book a bump or newborn session :)
