Maternity dresses - styling your maternity session in Cornwall
Anything that makes you look good in pregnancy is hard to find! Dresses for maternity photoshoots can be especially difficult to source, but I’ve got you covered with my maternity client wardrobe!
What to wear for a maternity photoshoot?
Literally the first question that most people ask themselves when they book a maternity photoshoot is ‘What am I going to wear?’
It can be overwhelming…
Your maternity session is an important occasion, and you definitely want to get the styling aspect nailed. You only get this one chance to capture this time with your baby bump!
There are so many options out there and things you could wear, but most people don’t have a wardrobe of maternity outfits they feel beautiful in.
What photographs well for maternity photos?
I am passionate about helping my clients find something that will photograph beautifully, as well as look and feel good for them.
My rule of thumb for styling sessions is: simple, neutral, layers and textures.
I love a simple maxi dress with some subtle detailing - they add movement to images and hang over bumps so comfortably and beautifully, but if you are like the average mum-to-be, you don’t have a stash of maxi dresses to wear in a photoshoot.
Cue me, rolling in with my clothes rail, like a styling fairy godmother!
Maternity client wardrobe
I realised that I can help with this dilemma by offering a collection of dresses which pregnant mums can borrow for their Cornwall maternity sessions with me.
My client wardrobe has been slowly added to with the perfect maternity dresses for my Cornwall sessions.
Saving you time and money
When you start Googling for the style you want, you begin to realise how difficult it is to find something in the right style that is affordable - after all, you want to save your money for your newborn photos!! There is also the risk that what you order won’t fit well or look good in photos.
I know items in my collection will photograph beautifully - they have been especially selected because they fit my styling criteria. In fact, I have hunted some of my dresses down - countless hours searching online, and many have been imported as they aren’t sold in the UK. Some cost several hundred pounds!
Because I can grab things when I see them, it means I have stuff that isn’t currently available. Also, when your photoshoot is coming up you might not have weeks to wait for delivery.
Trying on
My maternity dress/outfits selection is in my studio in Truro, and mums who have booked an outdoor maternity session are welcome to come for a complimentary fitting session where they can try on different outfits and decide on what they’d like to wear at their maternity shoot.
Sometimes a dress that doesn’t look like much on the hanger will come to life on the right figure - this is a chance to find your style!
Simple, neutral, layers and texture
These are the essential elements for the dresses and outfits I buy for my maternity photoshoots. Most of them happen outdoors in Cornwall, so layers have the added benefit of keeping you warm when it’s a bit chilly. Because outdoor maternity sessions happen just before sunset it’s nice to have a pretty knitted shawl to throw on.
Bump photo shoots include free access to my client wardrobe - a collection of maternity dresses/outfits in my studio in Truro, Cornwall.
Every mum-to-be deserves to feel gorgeous!
